Terahertz wave, also known as the "Wave of Life", is a special electromagnetic wave lie between far-infrared rays and microwaves. It is in between 0.1-10THz (1 terahertz = 1 trillion hertz). It not only has the same properties as light, but also has the penetration and absorption of electromagnetic waves.
In 2004, the US government rated terahertz technology as one of the "ten technologies that will change the world in the future".
In 2005, Japan listed terahertz technology as the first of the "ten key strategic goals of national pillars".
China held the "Xiangshan Science and Technology Conference" in 2014 to formulate a plan for accelerating research on the application of terahertz technology in biomedicine.
